Every year I swear to myself that I will not put up that darn grapevine garland. It's prickly and stubborn, and although you can't see it, we have to tie the ends down because grapevine apparently has a very good memory. This grapevine has decided it's a circle...and coaxing it out of its circle is nothing short of VERY FRUSTRATING. Sterling installed the grapevine this year. That's the only reason it's even up. My contribution is the skeletons. Awesome, right? When I happened upon them at Walmart I squealed with glee and promptly put them in my cart -- right up front in the seat...with their legs dangling down. And I may have talked to them a bit. You know, telling them to pipe down and to stop asking for everything in the store. My mother, who was with me at the time, was nothing short of appalled. She doesn't really get into the spooky side of things.
When I got home from Walmart it was late and dark, so I left my skeleton buddies in the back of the car. The next morning, when I got into the car to drive to church, I found Parker in the back seat with the two skeletons buckled in on either side of him. Yes, a boy after my own heart. He named them Bob and Carl and has asked if they can live in his room after Halloween.
I'm thinking --no-- but only because if they were to live in his room...they'd be a pile of bones by next Halloween. They're not exactly what you'd call high quality.
Strangely enough Parker has neglected to name this guy. He's currently housed in one of our front flower beds. Looks like someone needs to get to weeding. I suppose that someone might be me...or those children I birthed. Yes, definitely the children. Let's go with the children.
More skulls. But skulls WITH FLOWERS. That's a nice touch, don't ya think? See the extension cords? They live on the porch from now until the end of December. In fact, I've already got the Christmas light guy scheduled. I vacillate wildly between thinking "HOLIDAYS ARE FUN!" and "too much stuff to do." I'm really all over the place emotionally speaking.
And last, but certainly not least, the spiders. The big, black spider has perched on that very shutter for at least three consecutive Halloween seasons. She's from Target, and she must be quality because she's just as black and shiny and luxurious as the day I threw her in the cart. Props to the spider makers.
As today is Friday, I deem it ACCOMPLISH-CLOSE-TO-NOTHING day. I do have one semi-complicated task to finish up before lunch (pictures tomorrow). Other than that, my plan is to be lazy and selfish. This is my new plan (the lazy and selfish part) because I spent the entire week working myself to the bone...only to have my hard work scoffed at and thrown like so many pearls before swine. I figure that's the best way to handle rejection (I am speaking professional rejection here)...is to just ignore the problem and it will probably go away...or get a whole lot worse. I'll let you know how that works out.
Dang! Walmart with her siren song was calling to me the other day.....and I pretended I didn't hear. Now I see I have missed out on the skeletons. (It was probably bob and carl calling to me, now that I think about it.)

Tried the grapevine wreath last year. After thirty minutes, it won the fight and I gave up. Yours is totally cute. Wish Daren had Sterling's enthusiasm for decorating.
