I've wanted one of these birthday banners ever since they first started popping up on the blogs. They seem like such a nice tradition -- like something the kids will remember in years to come. "Remember Mom's old birthday banner?" Yea, like that. And really, I love anything with typography. I even ordered a custom banner for my MIL for the camp she holds for her grandchildren. But when I went back to buy a banner for myself, well, it seems the banner maker isn't producing at the moment. And because I've been so crafty lately (remember the quilt?), and because I have some buddies who were particularly encouraging, I embarked upon banner making myself. Because that's how the pioneers do it. They make things themselves.
I intend to make several. I gave this one away yesterday to my friend Carrie...for her birthday. It's good to have a deadline. Even though I had everything purchased and cut out, I wasn't able to get to the sewing part until after I had scooted the kids out the door to school. We were having lunch at 12:30, so I whipped out the sewing machine and got to work. So...I need to make one for myself. Otherwise my children will never wax poetic over mom's old birthday banner and all of my planning will have been for naught.
And so many of my plans are for naught...that I need to step up every now and then.
On the docket for a (finally) cool and breezy fall Saturday: well, some banner making. Lunch with old high school friends. Some reading. Some laundry. And absolutely no grading whatsover. Also hoping for Where the Wild Things Are. Sterling is already off getting new tires on the Suburban. And there we go again...spending money on things that are decidedly NOT fun.
I was a birthday banner on a fabric website and have wanted my kids to say the same thing about Mom's old birthday banner. So I also need to make one for myself. Thanks for inspiring me!
