Wow. It's been a week. It's been the kind of week, in fact, where I had nary a moment to sit down and luxuriate in the last moments of summer. Nope, no luxuriating here. It's been meetings, and supply collecting, and schedule negotiating. To give you some idea, I planned on Tuesday to make Pioneer Woman's Chicken with Olives. But since I was NOT home all week, I just finally made it last night only to use the chicken that was going to go bad in the refrigerator. Sterling, Jordan, and Becca weren't even home, and I don't like to cook unless we have a full family line up. I'm choosing to believe this is NOT the new normal and that things will settle down once school starts.
Right?
I did accompany Jordan to the high school to haggle over her schedule. The girl has this insane list of AP classes she is bound and determined to take, and she is nothing less than exceedingly heartbroken that they don't all work out in her schedule. But fear not! She has exchanged Statistics AP for Calculus AP and seems to be at peace with her selection. You've never seen a kid so torn up about her academic choices (except maybe her mother who was sick near to vomiting on the first day of school each year).
Becca got a top locker!! Eighth grade looks to be a victory lap for her.
Parker got the MAN teacher! We have a new teacher at our elementary school. He's the only man in the entire school besides the PE teacher, and he's teaching 5th grade Reading and Language Arts. I couldn't be more excited. Parker loves math but is less than thrilled with reading and writing. I'm hoping the MAN can show him the light, that light being that is READING IS THE BEST THING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.
And our backyard project? Well, it continues...but I think we are getting near splashdown.
Here's the status as of yesterday:
All pool progress stopped for about a week while the patio cover was built. It's the darn patio cover that got us into this whole venture to begin with. Sterling wanted a covered porch in the backyard so we could actually go into the backyard in the Houston summers. And while I thought the covered porch would certainly be nice, I wasn't so sure we'd sit under the porch and stare at the fence. Why would we do that when we have cable inside? Enter... the pool.
This morning (at 7 AM) the plastering began. Hurray!
I'm crossing my fingers we can have a first day of school swim...
But that will be after my first morning of seminary. Old Testament, here I come!
