As much as I didn't want it to come. It came.
The kids are gone.
The house is quiet.
Last night we did all of our traditions and TRIED to have the kids in bed early. Most of the kiddos reported difficulty sleeping. I was up at 5 with the big girls and we made it to 6 AM seminary with time to spare. I wasn't tired at all. By Wednesday I should be half delirious.
No pics of the big girls since it was dark (and they were running around like crazy).
After seminary I hightailed it home to say goodbye to Becca. She is carpooling this year. I snapped this as she was walking out the door. Her friends were waiting in the car. I enjoy making my children take pictures and kiss their mother with an audience. It fulfills me.
See that Vera Bradley backpack? She bought that with her own hard-earned money. I'm all about teaching the young 'uns the value of a dollar.
After seeing Becca off I went in to check on my boy. He was in the shower after a 6:30 swim with his dad. Yep, the pool is plumb full of water. Except it's green...and as such is less than inviting to my delicate sensibilities. Not that it's green with algae (we do own a pool company after all). But the tap water is so full of minerals...that it has a distinctly green/yellow hue. This combined with our blue plaster...looks downright green and murky. Awesome. Hopefully some chemicals and pump action today will clear things right up.
My boy doesn't mind the green. He did report that the pool was cold. Huh? It's been over 100 degrees for the last gazillion days...
He's so cute. Jordan picked out that shirt at the Gap. Half off everything, remember?
And then he's off...half an hour before school starts. Reportedly, he wanted to miss the bike traffic. Except you and I both know there is no bike traffic. Ha!
So far today: I've folded and put away three loads of laundry, sorted through innumberable piles of "stuff," worked on my seminary lesson for tomorrow, finished off last night's dishes, and generally picked up the entire domicile cuz Maria is IN DA HOUZ.
Yep. It's shaping up to be a good day.
Nothing like the first day of a new school year. Everyone has high hopes of being their very best....new clothes, new shoes, and new teachers makes it all seem doable. How lovely to have all of your children off to school and Maria IN DA HOUZ. I love Rebecca's new backpack.

I was always scared to death on the first day of school. My stomach hurt, my fingers felt trembly, my arms ached. It was bad especially when you have to act like its all cool. It was not cool. Your guys seem to be happy about it all. Good work Sarah, you da bomb woman!
