One of my favorite blogs posted a list of small joys yesterday. Seems she's been in a bit of a funk and saw fit to count her many blessings via the Internet. While I haven't necessarily been in a funk per se (I LUV saying per se), I may just be engaged in a well-developed funkette. A mini funk, if you will. The amateur psychologist part of me attributes this funkette to being completely overwhelmed. And when I'm overwhelmed I get anxious. And when I'm anxious I get cricks in my neck, feel extremely ansty, and find it difficult to accomplish ANYTHING. Which only adds to my overwhelmedness.
The funkette, then, is just a lengthy preamble/explanation to my own list of small joys. Feel free to join in. Link up. I get super excited when someone obeys me on the Internet.
- So, this is pretty materialistic, but I'm fairly overjoyed with my new patio furniture (pictured above). We've never really had patio furniture before (yes, I'm 40) unless you count the wooden table and chairs we bought at the grocery store one spring. They weren't long for the world. This time I searched long and hard for patio furniture that would fit my discerning criteria: not wood, not wicker, not wrought iron, not shaped like granny furniture. It's not that I don't like wood or wicker, it's that I live in a hostile climate that takes wood and wicker and disintegrates it. Also, I'm lazy and don't want any upkeep. What I got? Fancy plastic. I think.
- Small mercies. Yesterday I texted Sterling from football practice (cuz I was bored). I asked him what he was doing. His reply, "On my way to football practice." He came straight to practice from work, which left me free to return home and eat bon bons from the comfort of my very own air conditioning.
- Yummy dinners prepped before noon. Even though I'm not all for crockpot meals everyday, it's been so nice to have dinner ready to go even before the kids get home from school. And they've been tasty. I've been getting lots of props for being so prepared.
- Patient kiddos. My little Becca is so sweet in the mornings. Even though I rush home from seminary, her carpool usually beats me by about two minutes and I miss seeing her. Typically Sterling is up with her in the morning, but since he's been working around the clock she's taken it upon herself to close our door and give him a few more minutes of sleep...even though this means she gets ready by herself.
- We hired a new employee on Monday! This is the sole reason Sterling made it to football practice last night. Now, if we could just find one more employee in the next week or so....
- Driving teens. If it wasn't for my driving girls, this family would be in hot water scheduling-wise.
Actually, I could continue the list for a while. Lots of good stuff happening around here. My task today? Stay at my desk ALL DAY LONG. This dissertation isn't going to write itself. Too bad.
Love your new patio furniture....beautiful color. You will love the bench. It accommodates so many more little "behinds" than individual chairs. There is always room for one more.
