I had intended on the most adorable of all pictures...that being my boy in his full football uniform (gold pants included)...but since it rained (as in poured) the last quarter of his game...I stripped him of 1/2 of his clothes before I even let him in the car. So there you go...jersey and helmet on the patio table. Fancy, no?
Sterling and I spent Friday night at football practice figuring out just how to get those lovely ram horn decals onto helmets. Before all was said and done we totally removed the facemasks and even removed some of the snaps, cut holes in the vinyl, and then neatly replaced them. It was a good thing Sterling was along for troubleshooting and general construction...otherwise, I might have thrown those ram decals away in a histrionic hissy fit. But he was there and I pretty much just handed him stuff and muttered soothing phrases under my breath. 20 decals made it onto the helmets. Phew.
Saturday. Oh Saturday. As it turns out, this particular Saturday would require many, many, MANY soothing phrases. Parker's team lost their 11 o'clock game, but not before a torrential rainstorm soaked us all TO THE SKIN in the last quarter. If it wasn't for the fact that we've been embroiled in a scorching drought, I might have been ticked off. As it was, I was just wet. And cold.
Six o'clock found us at the high school game. Jordan's group runs the giant WOODS flags up and down the sidelines, plus we enjoy a good, competitive game. Nope, no luck there either. No touchdowns. No flag running. No winning. Bummer.
But still...with high hopes we hurried home to watch the BYU / U of U game. BYU, my most beloved of all academic of institutions. U of U...our greatest rival. A rival so great, in fact, that it bleeds into family lines. Sterling's dad and brothers went to the U. We have an ancient honor to uphold. A grudge even. But no. Not even close. We lost 54-10.
I went to bed cursing football every which way.
But guess what? Parker has practice tonight.
Sweet.
P.S. What do BYU and U of U students have in common? Answer: They all applied to BYU. HA!
So true, they did indeed.
You know Sarah, I have had less and less interest in college football in recent years. Actually all college sport. On saturday morning there was an item on the internet giving the ticket price of various sports and various schools. Lots were $25 to $35 per ticket. BYU tickets start at $65. Their most expensive ticket on saturday was $1109. I must say I was sickened by that. A bunch of old men getting their who-whos off on the backs of a bunch of kids plus wanting to make a bunch of money too. The game started and I was in a grump over the ticket prices. When the whole thing fell apart I just felt this rage about the establishment that makes money and all the rest on the backs of children. Damn game anyway. One can take only so much xxxx xxxx.
