Tonight is Becca's "friend" party. I swear I thought my kids would be over birthday parties by now, but they love them (parties) and I love them (the kids)...so on we party.
Remember the paper mobiles I tagged last post? Becca wanted those for her party. At least, when we sat together going through my Pinterest boards...that's what she pointed to.
They were plenty easy to make...and fun and colorful...but I wouldn't repeat them for an outdoor installment. I'm not sure what I was thinking. I've lived in this humid environment long enough to know that paper will curl, but I guess I forgot. Or I'm an eternal optimist. Or I was trying really hard to make all of Becca's dreams come true.
Luckily, I still had the giganto banner to compensate for any lack of presence by the outdoor mobile. Phew.
As usual, Becca got her little self right to work setting up her party. She's a hard worker...this girl. To give you an idea, she went around the downstairs tidying up, and then I saw her outside moving the bikes off the porch. Pretty soon she was lunging up the driveway, lugging the garbage bag full of grass clippings the yard guys leave at the curb every Friday afternoon. I didn't tell her to do any of this. I know. And at 14. I can't wait to see what her house looks like.
And don't think I was slouching. It wasn't like I was watching The Waltons or anything. Especially the one where John Boy comes home from New York and talks the rich mine owner into opening the old coal mine and then the mine collapses and CoraBeth Godsey completely freaks out and screams, "JOHN BOY. I WISH YOU'D NEVER COME HOME!" You really shouldn't speak to John Boy like that. Seriously.
Nope. I was working myself near to death in the kitchen.
I did manage to complete chocolate cherry coke cupcakes (by Confessions of a Cookbook Queen.) Easy peasy. I do realize that poolside cupcakes are kind a weird. But by the time I finished the frosting, and glaze, and put the whole thing together I was already losing the light. You got to take your light where you can get it.
Parker was in the spa as I was taking this pic. And being the fun mom I am...when he said he wanted the cupcake...I just handed it to him. BEFORE DINNER AND EVERYTHING.
Of course he did his usual: ate the candy off the top and three bites of the cake on the bottom. Then he ran off.
I could learn a thing or two from him.
I totally wimped out on the homemade pizza rolls that I was going to make. The timing was getting dicey, so Sterling agreed to pick up the nugget tray from Chickfila. I do wish they weren't called nuggets...it's so...common. Do you have any idea how quickly a group of 8th graders can down 200 nuggets?
Very quickly.
That's all I have to say.
Sarah, girl, you impress me more and more every day. Especially on those days I read your blog. You rock!
