As I mentioned in the last post, I had it in my mind that I would make an uber-long banner for the back porch for Maddie's swim party. And even better? I'd make it in fabric so we could use it over and over again.
Of course, first I searched Etsy like a mad woman trying to buy one. The porch is approximately 30 feet wide, so I was looking for a banner that was somewhere between 45 and 60 feet long. Not only were there not many banners of that length, they were pricey, and me...being the reasonable gal that I am...opted not to spend a gazillion dollars on a banner.
Why? Why would I when I can make one myself?
I should stitch that on a pillow.
And then burn it.
Just kidding.
This project, unlike just about every other project I have ever undertaken in my entire life, went fairly quickly. The triangles are nine inches long and seven inches across. I cut them with my rotary cutter in diagonals so that one 9" strip yielded numerous triangle pairs. With the wrong sides together (just how I cut them) I sewed them up (I omitted sewing the top). Then I just wedged them in between some double fold bias tape and sewed like a mad woman. I had great intentions of pinning and measuring and being completely obsessive. But in the end there was no pinning. Just guessing. And seriously? I don't think you can tell.
And that is the last crafty thing I will do for a good while. I'm meeting with my dissertation chair on Wednesday, so I will be working frantically till then to have something good to show/discuss with her. And then after the meeting? I still be working frantically because I've got to get this dang thing done. No more playing around. Let's get serious here folks.
So, I'll be playing serious this week...along with several curriculum nights, football practice, football games, seminary, and various and sundry family obligations.
I just wanted to write "various and sundry." I think "various and sundry is completely underutilized. Let's work together to change that.
I am thinking that you are not progressing on your dissertation as rapidly as you would like because you have too many distractions in your life. "Various and sundry things" are taking front and center in your life and pushing the ancient women of England to the rear. I am offering a quiet hide-away in the mountains far away from the maddening crowd. Enlist Debbie or Jennifer to teach your sem. class for 10 days, Jordan and Madison to carpool and transport, and Rebecca to tend to the needs of the home. I'm sure that Sterling will keep all on task. I, on the other hand will wait on your hand and foot, loan you my car for travel to the U or BYU libraries and promise not to talk to you or distract you from your mission. At least know that the offer is out there.

All this refocusing on your dissertation sounds like a very boring week for me. Meh.

I'm interested in such offer,The sound quality in these podcasts is really poor. I feel bad about complaining about something that is free, but I think it is important.
